Window Cleaning
This is Manuel. Lives in southern USA and works as a window cleaner. Very busy ministerial servant and regular pioneer. He works part time cleaning windows of commercial buildings in a large city. He supports himself and his wife who also pioneers. His wife does all the accounting and he does all the cleaning.
Why it works for pioneers
Manuel gets to pretty much chose his own hours, though he makes it a point of doing the cleaning when the customer sees him. Over the years he has gotten very fast and good at his job. This has made his hourly rate very high and allows him to cut back on his hours. The high earning potential and flexible schedule make this an ideal pioneer job.
Earnings potential
Manuel didn't tell me how much he makes per hour, but I talked to another window cleaner that does pretty much the same thing as Manuel does and he makes about $50 USD / hour. Not bad.
How to get started
Manuel got started by just pounding the pavement and asking for the work. He says some jobs he way overbid and others underbid. It was a learning process. He called on all the businesses in his neighborhood. The response was very low, so he branched out to doing houses and other commercial work that was far away. Over time he refined his route and trimmed it down to just his local area.
Reality check
According to Manuel, it's actually a pretty competitive business. People will always be coming around trying to undercut you by a dollar or two. He said that the best thing to do is to be very friendly and kind with your clients. Once they get to know you, their loyalty will stick.
He also said it's quite physical work. You really have to move to make a good wage. There is sometimes ladder work that his clients require. Also winters are not bad where he lives, but it's tougher when it's cold out.
Overseas potential
This job seems like a pretty tight network with other brothers that do the same thing. When Mark goes away, he gets another brother to do his work for him. He makes a very small cut, but it covers him while he is away. However he cannot be away for too long.
Conclusion
Great earnings potential, but little overseas potential. I have personally known many pioneers, even in my own family, that do this work successfully and from what Manuel says, it's highly recommended.
