Posting Vlogs on Youtube

Meet Max who has been serving in a foreign territory for about 3 years.  He speaks Russian and uses this to teach Russians how to speak English. He posts short video clips that teach about selected English expressions. As time has goes by, he gets more and more people subscribing.

Demands on Time
The amount of time it takes to make and edit a video really depends on the quality you want.  You first have to conceive and plan the video.  Then shoot and edit it.  A poor quality video can take literally minutes to post. A good quality video may take a couple of hours for every minute of the final cut.

You will notice that Max's videos were mediocre quality to start and now they are top notch.  That's because it draws more views. He actually has partners that he works with.  They take care of the editing and run an english school on the back end.

So the demands on his time are much more minimal when you consider the fact that he can almost completely chose his own hours.  Working two or three days a week can produce a good quality video every week or more.

Earning potential
There are a lot of people like Max who post videos to teach English.  The competition is great and so the earnings are not high.  The average person makes about $2.00 per 1000 views through Youtube's Google advertising program. But people like Max use these videos to advertise an online English course that he has made. This has more earnings potential.

Overseas potential
It doesn't get much better than this.  Max's example is proof that this can be done from any country in the world.  He lives in a foregn country where the need is great and the cost of living is lower.  This supports him, but he is no millionaire.  But the point is this, he is completely mobile with this kind of work.

Requirements
Max has a computer with a good camera and microphone - not just any cheap camera from Ebay.  His partner has good video editing software.

Reality check
The reality check with this method of income is that it requires lots of patience.  It takes a long time to get subscribers and there is a lot of competition on Youtube.  Yes, it can take years to get this going, as it has for Max. And it takes many, many hours of filming and editing before seeing results.

Conclusion
My take on it is this: it would take a long time to get this off the ground.  But the huge plus is that it can be a source of income in almost any country with internet.  The minimal startup costs also make it appealing.

If you would like to peruse Max's channel.  Here it is on Youtube.  Have fun!
